Hey trendy readers! I’m back from an amazing week in Hawaii and writing this post now in order to keep myself from falling asleep too early and waking up wide-eyed in the middle of the night. Hopefully it doesn’t sound too much like jet-lag-induced gibberish. Here goes! Because Terry plans most of our trips (thank god), I have this habit of not knowing what is going on until moments before we leave. Like, I had NO idea that Hawaii was so far away. Here I was thinking it couldn’t be must further than a flight to LA, right? Wrong. It’s so far. So many time zones. I was not prepared. Here’s a quick run-down of activities, books, and looks from my time away!
WHAT I DID…
Our first stop was Oahu, where we stayed in this adorable Airbnb along Waikiki Beach. I loved Waikiki, but you could definitely tell it was touristy af, with lots of high-end shopping and people everywhere. We loved Maui Brewing Co. and The Beach Bar for dining! From there, we rented a Jeep and rolled with the top off and windows down to several beaches including Lanikai and Banzai Pipeline. The Banzai area had so many amazing food trucks with fresh fish sandwiches (for Terry) and grilled cheese and fries (for me, obviously).
After Oahu, we took a super-quick flight to Maui for the remainder of our trip. We stayed at the Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua courtesy of the Linkedin Club trip for all of the sales people who crushed it last year (Go Ter!). The hotel was beautiful and we were surrounded by amazing people the whole week, old friends and lots of new friends. Most of our days were spent poolside or beachside, with drinks and snacks not far from reach. We didn’t leave Kapalua very much because we literally had everything we needed, but we did venture to Lahaina to check out Front Street and, of course, Fleetwood’s! Their Fleetwood Smash cocktail is to DIE for. Yummmm. I highly recommend Kapalua—the views were spectacular and it was safe and fun.
WHAT I READ…
Since I read so many books, I am just going to give short synopses and reviews for each one. You know where to find me if you need more info. Here we go:
- The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena – This novel is a thriller for sure! It opens with the disappearance/kidnapping of a young couple’s sleeping baby and follows each character as their dirty little secrets are revealed. A little predictable but a page-turner nonetheless, this book will make a perfect beach read for summertime. Fans of Girl on the Train and Woman in Cabin 10 will love it. 3 out of 5 Stars.
- The Most Dangerous Place on Earth by Lindsey Lee Johnson – Ahhh! One of my favorite books of 2017 for sure! I loved, loved, loved this novel. Thrilling high-school drama like you’ve never seen it before, The Most Dangerous Place on Earth follows several teens (and a few of their teachers) as they learn the hard way that who they are, and who they used to be, can haunt them for a long time. Both tragic and adrenaline-filled, Dangerous Place will give you all the feels. I read it in one day—couldn’t put it down! 5 out of 5 Stars.
- Marlena by Julie Buntin – I loved Marlena! It’s the story of two high-school girls who form an inseparable bond forged by love, drugs, alcohol, and mutual need. Early on, you find out that Marlena dies, and the novel alternates between past and present in order to not only figure out what happened to her, but to also tell the great story of Cat and Marlena. I didn’t love the ending, but the book as a whole was top-notch. 4 out of 5 Stars.
- Idaho by Emily Ruskovich – I’m still reading this one…check back for a review soon!
WHAT I WORE…
I wanted to highlight a couple outfits from my trip. I always go into a vacation with the intent of taking so many blog photos, but when it actually comes down to it, there isn’t that much time for it! Ugh…I’m trying to get better. Anyway, I loved this Hawaiian print dress from T & J Designs. The pom-pom details are just the cutest and the fit was perfect! It was easy to move around in and the shoulders stayed in place. Only downfall is that really the only place to wear it is pretty much Hawaii or a beach-themed party. Sooo if anyone needs to borrow it, I won’t be wearing it for awhile! It looks like the one I have is sold out, but I linked a similar one!
Also, I have to highlight a swimsuit on account of bathing suits are my favorite things to buy and wear. This lovely one-piece is Nanette Lepore and I got it at Nordstrom. I was inspired to buy this because Cameran on Southern Charm has one and I base all my life decisions after what she does. Anyone else a Southern Charm lover? I love the fit and the cut of this suit. It was true-to-size (at least for me) and photographs colorfully well!
Back to reality! xo
