Hey trendy readers! Hope this week is treating you well! I for one was thankful for sunshine and springtime this past weekend. I am off to Mexico tomorrow (eeeep!) so I wanted to get my post in before this one completely got away from me. First, let me say that I am so grateful to the Fern Ronay (Is that not the best name?) for sending me her super cute novel, Better in the Morning. It’s one of those books that came at just the right time for me after a lot of heavier novels and piles of grad school reading. I loved it and I think you will too! My top in these photos is from SugarLove Boutique. TBH it is not the most comfortable thing, but it sure is cute!
BOOK: Better in the Morning by Fern Ronay
This book had me interested from the very beginning when Veronica’s life/job expectations come to a screeching halt because her boyfriend John doesn’t propose to her as she is anticipating. It definitely reminded me of the beginning of Legally Blonde when Elle is totally expecting Warner to propose at dinner that night but then (surprise!) he breaks up with her. The gist of the novel follows Veronica as she navigates her post-John life, juggling a job she hates with Match.com dates and a possible new hobby as a journalist.
Better in the Morning is light, funny, and full of life’s unexpected pitfalls and pleasures. I felt the whole time like I was binge-watching episodes of Friends or Sex in the City. There were multiple points in the novel when I thought, “this would make a great TV show.” Ronay’s writing is fun and engaging and she really connected with me as a newly-30 gal in the city. She includes just the write combination of lighthearted suspense, cringe-worthy moments, and humorous interactions. If you’re a fan of chick-lit, you’ll love it; and you’ll be cheering for Veronica (and Syd) the whole way.
Also, anyone who is Italian or has Italian friends/relatives will love all of the Italian references and idiosyncrasies. From St. Anthony to capisce to the cannoli-loving Grandpa Sal, I smiled every time. Bravo, Fern Ronay! 🙂
RATING: 4 out of 5 Stars
