Hi trendy readers! It appears as though after one spends a long weekend away that the following week ensues at a sloth’s pace. After an amazing weekend in Mexico with even more amazing friends (old and new!), I am back to #thegrind and once again feeling behind at life! I am planning on posting my trip details and books/looks from Mexico soon, so stay tuned! Until then, enjoy some Wednesday Blues with this outfit and book combination.
Instagram and Twitter are pretty much solely responsible for my to-be-read pile lately. My latest book, Exit West, came about because it is literally everywhere on social media. I picked it up not really knowing what to expect, except that it has been really well received in the book and pop-culture communities. Exit West is the story of two young people, Nadia and Saeed, who meet amidst a brewing civil war. Their community quickly becomes dangerous and unfamiliar and together they make the challenging yet necessary choice to flee. After hearing rumblings of secret doors, doors that will lead them to other lands, Nadia and Saeed risk everything to leave behind the lives they know. The rest of the novel follows them as they navigate the uncertainty that lies ahead. Their bond is tested, their connection to their old life is dwindling, if not already gone, and they both must move toward the future, whatever the cost.
This book definitely has a sort of 1984 feel to it, where its basically satirical of what is going on in the world right now. I guess this one is less satire and way more real. I don’t typically like books that have fantastic aspects to them, but this one didn’t bother me. I think it’s because the concept of it is so real and Hamid does a great job of bringing Nadia and Saeed to life. You can very easily think of who Nadia and Saeed are in today’s world. I’m sure you will be seeing this book around for a while, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it made into a movie sometime soon. I read it in one afternoon/evening with a few snack and candy breaks in between, so it won’t take you too long to get through this one. It is worth your time for sure.
RATING: 4 out of 5 Stars
Today’s outfit is brought to you by Old Navy, who has totally upped their game lately! I always feel like ON is so hit-or-miss, but lately it’s all hit all the time. This striped dress fits so nicely and is great for a good work-to-happy-hour situation. And who doesn’t love a good denim vest?! Sometimes vests may me look like a boy, but this one is a little cropped so it works well with dresses and anything with a high waist. Both of these items were sold out so I linked similar ones that you can check out.
Keep reading and keep smiling! xo
