Wedding season is in full swing, and what better way to celebrate than with the perfect book and a fancy look that are perfect for all those nuptials you’ll be celebrating this summer. I am SUPER excited for my brother’s wedding—it is coming up in less than two weeks! Eeeep! The playlist is going to be hot fire and I seriously can.not.wait. Aside from that excitement, my summer has been pretty low key. I am finally finished with all of my work work, so now I just have grad school work, beach and pool time, and listening to Despacito on repeat for all of my days! Seriously, how good is that song?!
BOOK: The People We Hate at the Wedding by Grant Ginder
I told you this book was wedding-themed! The People We Hate at the Wedding follows Paul and Alice (siblings), who are embarking to London to begrudgingly attend their fancy half-sister Eloise’s wedding. Paul’s mental state is not the greatest, nor is his relationship with his mother or his relationship with his boyfriend Mark. As for Alice, she is juggling the painful aftermath of a not-so-recent miscarriage and an affair with her boss Jonathan. Both siblings are struggling to let go of their pasts and trying to make sense of their presents, and being reunited with their dysfunctional family members is only making matters worse. Told in alternating perspectives of Paul, Alice, and a few others, The People we Hate is sure to please your inner judge-y self!
I have mixed feelings about this one, guys. While I loved the story for its uniqueness and charm, I felt like nothing really happened that was that interesting. I liked it and I think other girls like me would like it, but if you’re into more of the thriller kind of beach read, this one is not for you. However, if you liked Leave Me by Gayle Forman or Where Did You Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple, then you don’t want to miss People We Hate! The story was fun and lighthearted for the most part, which makes a great summer read in my opinion. It’s on many “must-read” lists, including Entertainment Weekly, Publisher’s Weekly, and The New York Post. It would be a great one to throw in your bag for some easy beach or poolside reading!

LOOK: Dress – Nordstrom
I love getting dressed up for weddings, and this red-orange cutout dress is one of my favorites! The brand is TopShop and it fits so nicely! I love the location of the cutouts as well as the cut of the neckline. I am usually not one to repeat dresses very often, but this one I have worn multiple times for many occasions. This exact dress is no longer available because I got it last year, but I have linked similar ones here and here.
Cheers to wedding season! xo, Amy
