It’s Independent Bookstore Day and bookshops all across the country are celebrating! I thought I’d take this opportunity to share with you my favorite indie bookstores in Chicago! Here are my Top 5:
57th Street Books – Hyde Park: My brother goes to the University of Chicago so I always pop in to this lovely bookstore when I am down in Hyde Park. 57th Street Books is aesthetically pleasing both inside and out (great for Instagram!) and has big-name authors/illustrators floating in and out all the time. There is so much that makes Hyde Park unique and charming, and 57th Street Books is one of those special places!
City Lit Books – Logan Square: City Lit is located right in the heart of Logan Square and has the comfiest reading couches where you can curl up and read your latest purchases. They have a great selection of fiction and YA (my faves) and a knowledgeable staff that is willing to help with all of your book needs.
Volumes Bookcafe – Wicker Park: Volumes is a great place to grab a latte and read, hang out, and do homework (or real work). They have a GREAT selection of books and so many author visits to pop in on. Volumes, in my opinion, is making bookstores the cool place to hang out. AND, they have a wall made entirely of hardback book covers. I mean come on.
The Book Cellar – Lincoln Square: Any place where you can get snacks and books is a winner in my book! The Book Cellar is located on Lincoln Square’s main drag and is FILLED to the brim with books for every reader. I mean sometimes I think they’re going to fall off the shelves they have so many. The Book Cellar has super fun pop-in events all the time and always the best book displays right when you walk in. Plus you can drink and eat your way through Lincoln Square when you leave!
Roscoe Books – Roscoe Village: My #1 most favorite little bookshop in Chicago lives on Roscoe Street! It is just the cutest! The staff there is so friendly and helpful—they can find you any book you need, no matter how ridiculous you think you are by asking for it. Roscoe Books is fairly new to Chicago, but they’re doing so many amazing things to promote the love of reading for all ages. Book clubs, author events, special sneak peeks from publishers, and just general awesomeness make this bookshop my number one. Check them out!
Have a GREAT weekend, book lovers! xo
