You guys! Summer is right around the corner and I could NOT be more excited. I am ready to have more time to devote to reading and bringing you more book recommendations to build your summer reading list! For today’s post, I’m reviewing Tracie Banister’s Mixing It Up, which was sent to me a few weeks ago by Tracie herself! Enjoy!
BOOK: Mixing It Up by Tracie Banister
First, a big THANK YOU to Tracie for sending me a copy of this book to read and review. As an amateur blogger, it is always fun to get book mail sent my way! Even though I am not the biggest foodie—okay, not at all a foodie—I still had a great time with this book. Mixing It Up is the story of Cecily Sinclair, a comes-from-money kinda girl who has her own cooking show. Following an executive shake-up at her network, she is forced by her cute, new boss to change a few things about her show. She’s okay with some of those changes, but the one that stings the most is that she will be getting a new co-host, although the term “new” is used loosely here. She’ll be partnering with her old boss, whom she can’t stand, even though viewers seem to love him. What ensues is Cecily trying to navigate this new twist in her career, and figuring out if she really even wants to navigate it at all.
This book is super playful and fun, and the plot kept me turning the pages quickly! I always enjoy a book that is well-researched as well as well-written, and Tracie expertly mixes info about the culinary arts with the rom-com genre. I loved Cecily’s quirkiness underneath her sophisticated outer shell, and her interactions with other characters drove the plot in a realistic manner. Oh yea, and there were definitely some LOLs missed in along the way. Funny and smart, this novel is just what you need for the foodie that might be (if you’re me) lurking deep down inside of you. Grab your copy today and read it while eating the amazing cheese curds from Commonwealth Tavern in Chicago’s Roscoe Village neighborhood. Spoiler Alert: They’re the best things ever.
