Hi, everyone!  In today’s post I’ve got a new thriller for you and a quarantine-style LBD.  It’s the perfect #booklook for a relaxing day of reading.  Lounge life is the best life, right?!?  Hope you enjoy, and thank you for reading!

BOOK:  Too Good to be True by Carola Lovering

"And I realized that life is tough, and there's so much we can't control, so when you can, you've got to choose love.  Even when it's the hardest choice, even when it feels absolutely impossible, you've got to choose it.  You've got to keep choosing love and fighting for it, over and over, no matter what.  There's no other way, really."

Too Good to be True is a new novel from Carola Lovering that chronicles the whirlwind fairytale love story of Skye Starling and Burke Michaels, who meet, fall in love, and get married in very quick succession.  While there are some concerns amongst Skye’s friends and family about her new man and the pace at which they’re checking off future plans, no one could have predicted what was happening under their noses, especially Skye herself.  Leading a secret, alternate life, Burke is definitely not the man anyone thinks he is, and now that he and Skye are married, things can potentially get a whole lot worse.  Eventually, it is discovered that Burke is connected to Skye in more ways than just marriage, having known her from a distance since she was a young girl.  A tale of power, greed, ambition, starting over, and being in too deep, with an ending that is as twisted as it is hopeful, Too Good to be True delivers a story you won’t soon forget.

So there’s the gist, now let’s talk about it.  TGTBT is a page-turner that entraps you in the story–into Langs Valley and into the lives of the characters.  I love a book with short chapters told from different perspectives; it keeps me locked in.  I loved the plot here.  Sometimes these thriller/dramas can all start to blend together, but this was one I didn’t feel like I had read before or that had already been done.  And there were many things that I didn’t predict, which I love.  It’s always fun as a reader to have those OH SHIIIIIT moments.  For example, I had to reread the part where the relationship/connection between characters is brought to light because I did NOT see that coming.  Plus it took me a minute to be like wait how could...but who is...how did...oooohhhh okay got it.  I thought that connection was genius and really well-written.  I didn’t love the ending, but I didn’t hate it.  SPOILERS! → Ya kinda want to see the bad guys get what’s coming to them, right?  This isn’t the book for you if you want the punishment to fit the crime.  But I guess good for Skye for being able to choose love and really go for it after being conned and humiliated.  I don’t think she made the right choice, but who am I?!?  I also have a hard time believing that Burke just got caught up in the scheme and none of this is his fault and that deep down he is loyal and loving and a stand-up guy.  Mmmmmm I don’t buy it.

Fans of The Wife Upstairs, The Other Woman, My Husband’s Wife, and other domestic thrillers will no doubt find this one enthralling and worth the read.

LOOK: Sweatshirt Dress - Old Navy (looks like they are out of the black, but other color options are available); Shoes - Tory Burch

A little black book calls for a little black dress...but make it casual.  This LBD is less dress and more sweatshirt, so it fits perfectly into everyone’s current aesthetic, right?  I think something tied/belted around the waist is key for a dress like this (at least for me).  Sweatshirt/t-shirt dresses and flannel shirts...two things that look great on everyone else, but when I put them on it’s like wait this is not as advertised.  This is a good one though, and so comfy.  I paired it with some espadrilles but sneaks or sandals would complete the look, too!

Thanks again for stopping by!  I’d love to hear your thoughts on this book and/or look!   Leave me a comment or send me a message on IG @thetrendyreader!

Happy Reading!
